Dred: Music Room and Gallery, Survey Results

One of the original glories of the Inn was its large music room and gallery, which when completed in 1843 housed a large pipe organ and one of the most respected collections of portraits in Ohio.  For more than thirty years, people came from miles around to view the treasures of owner Jeremiah Wolfe's gallery.

Eventually, the organ fell into disrepair. It was sold for parts and scrap in the late 1950s; by that time most of paintings had already been carried off by the heirs of the Merton family or sold to collectors.

The illustration here draws on contemporary records to recreate some of what visitors would have seen when visiting Wolfe's gallery in the early years.
